Week Two: Research and Enquiry #crit101

What is the best way to cook an egg?

When I learnt of the title of this weeks project, I knew it was going to be a difficult one. Not only was the question open to discussion from many different angles, but also we would have to work in groups to collaborate our research together in google docs.

However I learnt that the research process can be effective once all members of the group begin to communicate. We got off to a very slow start, with little discussion of what we shall do on the google doc. However, as soon as we started talking, we all took on fair shares of the work. To complete a detailed discussion of the question at hand.

Although I think that the work of the group together was made more difficult because all of our collaboration was over the internet. When doing a project at school, it is much easier to have discussions face to face, and to organise your work load together. Where as under our circumstances, all discussion took place over google docs, that may be why it took us longer to get started, we were not used to this type of learning, and for me, I had never used google docs before.

Overall I am proud of the research enquiry me, Melissa and Rosie created. When it became necessary we knuckled down to the work, and produced a clean and clear document with primary and secondary research of three sources and concluded our research as a whole. I believe I was reasonably effective as a collaborator, however I could have tried harder to organise our team together to begin the work earlier. Together the three of us wrote work on the document, and all also edited each others work, to produce the best possible document. Now i’m familiar with how google docs work, I believe the next time I use it, I will be able to use it more efficiently and productively.
