What is independent learning?

Some people may think that independent learning is about picking up a book on a certain topic, and teaching yourself the contents of it.

In fact, independent learning is not always about learning things by yourself. People can learn in large groups and still be independent. There is a difference between learning from others and being dependent on others. Being an independent learner means being self-motivated and not relying on other people to make sure you are on top of everything. It is about recognising your weaknesses and developing ways to improve them.

I am taking part in this course as I am interested in finding out about how I can become more independent and what I can do to become more organised with my time. I also want to develop my self-motivation techniques, whilst recognising the way I approach other people’s ideas.
